Not every itinerary has room for a night in the desert — but no one should leave Merzouga without seeing the dunes at sunset. This two-hour ride takes you from the edge of the village into Erg Chebbi in the day’s most beautiful light.
Your cameleer leads the caravan to a high dune with a clear western horizon. There you dismount, climb the last metres of soft sand, and watch the Sahara turn from gold to red over a glass of mint tea. Try the sandboard if you like — then ride back as the light fades.

Itinerary
Two hours before dark — the ride out
We meet at the edge of Merzouga. After a short introduction to your camel, the caravan sets off into the dunes — about 45 minutes of riding through steadily taller sand.
Sunset — tea on the dune
From the viewpoint dune you watch the sun drop over the whole erg. Tea is poured, photos are taken, sandboards come out. When the light goes soft we ride back, arriving at dusk.

It depends on the season — we always leave about two hours before sunset. We confirm the exact meeting time the day before.
Can we do this at sunrise instead?
Yes. The sunrise version leaves in the dark and watches the sun come up from the same dunes. Just tell us which you prefer when booking.
Is it suitable for people who have never ridden a camel?
Completely. The pace is a walk, the saddles have metal handles to hold, and your cameleer leads every camel by hand.
